Holocaust Survivor Leaving US

It is too bad your perspective seems to be confined to those things you wish were true. Have you spent time in Europe, or Germany, as the author has - as I have?
Spare me your self-righteous know-it-all-ism. Unless you have immersed yourself in another culture for a period of years, you cannot possibly understand what makes this story not only believable, but incredibly probable. And keep in mind this story was written almost three years ago - and things have moved in the direction predicted by the story. We're more fascist now than ever, corporations are practically openly running the government, the Justice Department has been politically subverted, and the maniacs who are shredding our Constitution are brazenly working to destroy this country. Throw in the Patriot Act, and you have the entire recipe Hitler used to seize power in Germany. Have you actually studied that period in history, or are you just going by the popular beliefs about how Hitler came to power? Have you ever even heard of the Enabling Act? Comparing ANYTHING our country has done with that of the Nazis is not only ludicrous, it's dishonest and irresponsible, unless you have ulterior motives. This is a closed minded and non-productive philosophy. To begin with we can compare some very basic properties. Both Nazi government are the current U.S. government are governments. There is the beginning of the comparison. They are also both governments with civil rights issues, as are all governments. How far the comparison can proceed from there is up for honest academic debate. Saying that any such comparison is ludicrous is not taking a stance, it is simply ignoring any actual comparisons in favor of self-righteous denial. An attempt to quash such debate irresponsible, unless you have ulterior motives yourself. |
